Parade with passion
Palm Sunday
The Palm Sunday procession marks the beginning of the greatest week in the church calendar, the week when we engage again with the story of Jesus’ journey to the cross and beyond. The story is so powerful and contains so many core images and motifs that shape our beliefs, and it presents an opportunity for all ages to encounter the mystery of faith.
Palm Sunday might seem the easiest Sunday on which to create all-age worship – simply bring in a donkey and the job’s done! But the Palm Sunday readings encourage us not only to engage with Jesus acclaimed as king, but also to take a panoramic view of the whole passion story before engaging with it in detail during the week ahead. It’s as if we are taken to a high point on a mountain where we look down at everything that lies ahead....
