Meditation - 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
2nd Samuel 7: 1-14a Psalm 89: 20-37 Ephesians 2: 11-22 Mark 6: 30-34, 53-56


God’s purpose is, and always has been, for human beings to be united in his worship, brought into common fellowship with him.  In establishing David as King in Jerusalem (2nd Samuel 7 v 28-29, 35-37) he was beginning a kingly line that would lead to the Messiah who would be born as a direct descendant of David (Matthew 1 v 6-16, Luke 1 v 32). But although God’s attention appeared for centuries to be directed only upon Israel, his intention was that people of all nations would be redeemed (Luke 2 v 32, John 3 v 16), and would – like King David – declare God to be their Rock and Saviour (Psalm 89 v 26)...
