Matthew 20: 1-16


The parable of the Workers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20 v 1-16) addresses a very common and understandable human reaction to the gospel; it is not fair.

What was going on in this vineyard was certainly unfair. Some men had laboured in the heat of the day for about twelve hours, others had joined them later, and some had worked for only one hour, as the day was drawing to an end and conditions were cooler. When the vineyard owner came to pay them, he gave a full day’s wage to those who had worked for just an hour. Yet when he came to those who had worked all day, he gave them just the same – one day’s pay...
