Holy Innocents’ Sermon idea:
This day, this very day, is very special. Holy Innocents Day. Sounds like ‘innocence’, the day of those who are innocent. Sounds like a good day, a day for children. A day which knows no wrong. Fitting for Christmas.
Yet in the churches’ calendar this is rarely celebrated or marked. Less a day of innocence, more of slaughter and mayhem. Christmas is just too pretty to be spoiled by such a day, hardly a feast. But if we‘ve seen beyond the tinsel at all we will have seen a child, born in the night, a long way from home. And the air is chill in a way that no Yule log can touch.
