1 Corinthians 7.8-16

Divorce has swept the Western world like a plague. When I was young, nobody I knew, in our street, my school, anywhere, was divorced. There were occasional mentions of marriage breakdown well outside our close family and friends, but it was assumed that such things were as rare, and as tragic, as a suicide. Within the last fifty years all that has changed, and now every street, every family, every school, and even every church has some people who have been through divorce, often more than once. Some countries where divorce was almost unthinkable a generation ago (including some largely Roman Catholic societies where it was more or less impossible) have seen divorce statistics shoot up...
