It was a scrappy end to the game, but perhaps it was inevitable. We were winning by what should have been a safe margin; and with a few minutes to go the opposition seemed to realize that their cause was hopeless. Perhaps for that reason, though, they went berserk, as maybe only rugby players can. With nothing more to lose, they threw themselves about the place, fists swinging this way and that, boots flying out to trip or kick. They were furious that we’d won and they wanted to get some revenge in person even if they couldn’t on the score-line.
