Bounty and blessing spring from the hillsides,
wholeness and comfort meet in the street,
this is the gift that God will be giving,
when we return to sit at his feet.
But as God’s people we have been straying,
wandering fools, our judgment destroyed.
God seems so angry, grace is diminished,
guilt is rewarded, love not deployed.
Once God had smiled, our rooms rang with laughter,
once we had danced, God’s love led the way.
Now we are saddened, each fresh disaster
seems to confirm that we’ve lost our way.
