Week 1: Prophets
Reader 1: Our preparations for Christmas begin, probably reluctantly, as our summer holidays end. But God planned for the birth of his Son hundreds of years before it actually happened, with the help of some very special people, his prophets.
Reader 2: The prophet Isaiah said “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” God knew exactly what he was going to do and when he was going to do it well in advance.
Reader 1: The prophets were so important, they told God’s people what he was going to do and what he wanted of them, even if the people didn’t want to listen. There are prophets around today, proclaiming God’s words, his message for us, but sadly we are still reluctant to listen to what they are saying – probably because we might be being asked to do something we don’t like or want to do.
Reader 2: Let us Pray;- Father God, we willingly read the words of the prophets of old, knowing that what they said was your will for your people. Help us to listen to your prophets of today as they make your will for us known, then give us the faith and strength to respond. Amen.
