I have an odd life compared with many of the people who live in the same city as I do. I never cease being grateful for the fact that I can work at home much of the time and that when I go to the seminary, it is a ten-minute bicycle ride. My life contrasts with that of people I can see first thing in the morning if I look through the kitchen window as I make our first pot of coffee. They start driving down our street soon after six toward the freeway that takes them to their place of employment, many of them setting off early to get a jump on the main traffic flow that will slow to a crawl when they near Los Angeles. They will work there all day, possibly in company and activity that is stimulating and enjoyable, but possibly not, until they join the reverse crawl in the afternoon to get home. They will perhaps be unlikely to have the energy to make their own dinners and will rely on takeout or prepared food, and they will most likely collapse on the sofa in front of mindless television in the hope of unwinding before they repeat the performance the next day...
