As you drive north from Lake Galilee on the road that leads from Jerusalem or from the Mediterranean, you can fork right and cross the Bridge of the Daughters of Jacob toward Damascus along the route that Abraham would have taken when he first came to Canaan and the route Saul was taking when he got knocked over by Jesus. Alternatively you can continue north toward Caesarea Philippi and the Lebanese border (it is bewildering how chronologies and stories crisscross). If you do the latter, you can immediately drive over a hump that is actually the edge of the huge city of Hazor, a tell going back into pre-Israelite times. One can see how, standing at this key junction dominating the routes going in different directions, it came to be the head of the kingdoms in the area...
