I have tried being confrontational with God, but it doesn’t work very well because God is capable of being confrontational back (as Job found). Once when I was fretting over my wife’s illness, I said to God, “I don’t really trust you with Ann”; and I sensed God replying, “Would you trust you with Ann if you were me?” (to which the answer was “No”). Another time I told God, “I don’t think much of the way you deal with Ann”; and I sensed God saying back, “The way I treat Ann is between Ann and me; I’m not answerable to you.” It was a tough response, but a strangely helpful one. If you talk straight, you may get a straight response, but that’s better than not talking straight and thus not getting a response that tells you what God thinks and that makes you think about things a different way...
