One of the Christians I know who have had affairs had three such relationships and got away with two without anyone knowing. Then some people discovered about the third (I don’t know what his wife might have suspected), which was how he came to be talking to me. I didn’t know whether he was repentant or just remorseful about getting found out, but I was struck by what he said about not recognizing temptation as temptation because he was able to rationalize his way into believing that it was OK for him to act in a way that the Christian community would regard as wrong (and that you would think Scripture was pretty clear about). Yet I know he was only an extreme example of something most of us experience.
