People just down our street are incensed. There’s an affordable housing project whose residents are incensed because it has become a base for drug dealers and a locus of conflicts between local gangs. City officials and city police are incensed because they have put a lot of energy into trying to clean up the area and have failed. There’s a small supermarket and liquor store (with bullet-proof glass around the cashier’s desk) where I have occasionally shopped; its owners are incensed because they feel they are being scapegoated by the police in connection with the drug use, fighting, and marketing of pirate DVDs in its parking lot, not to say prostitution. Other people who live in the area are incensed because the police have failed to get on top of the situation. There is something scary about a situation where there is so much anger being expressed...
