Most of us think we would like the kind of
communication with God that Elijah has.
The narrator of 1 Kings tells us, very
matter-of-factly, that God tells Elijah to
do something, and Elijah goes off and
does it. And, in return, God makes special
provision for Elijah, to ensure that he is
protected from the results of what he has
to say on behalf of God. Immediately before
the passage set for today, Elijah has gone
to King Ahab and told him that the Lord
has decreed that there will be a terrible...
