Prayer: Watchful God
The prophet Amos warned that it is the everyday deceits – the token observance of the Sabbath, the sharp business practices, the cheating and exploitation of the poor, the selling of poor quality goods – that will be noticed and judged by God and the punishment will be widespread and severe.
Watchful God,
we are aware of the fact that none of us is perfect,
but we so often deceive ourselves
by believing that no one notices our imperfections.
Yet we ought to know that you understand us
better than we understand ourselves.
