These reflections/commentaries have been used as a short (1272 words)talk This in spite of the fact that both psalms are different to many others and one of them (Psalm 88) doesn't appear in the lectionary. They are the personal prayers of one person, and unusually don't address themselves to the nation of Israel. it is difficult to see where they fit into worship or alongside the more uplifting and encouraging Psalms. However they are helpful in that they recognise the reality of the depressed state of their writers and offer a useful strategy to help them
