Third Sunday after Pentecost
Genesis 24: 34-38, 42-49, 58-67
It was a love story all right.
You may not believe it as such, after the swearing of an oath to my master and all the
preparation and praying and instructions and rules and commands I was given about
it – but it was a love story.
There were far too many coincidences in it to make it anything else.
First there was the fact that Abraham chose me to make the journey to find a
daughter-in-law from his own people. I am his oldest servant. I’ve worked in his
household for more years than I care to remember. He’s always been a good master
and appreciates all I’ve done. But he knows how old I am and I was surprised when
he asked me to take the long journey. I’d assumed he’d ask a younger man...
