Meditation - 7th Sunday of Easter Year B

In the opening of the book of Acts, Luke establishes the basis on which the Church is to be built. He reminds his readers of the “convincing proof” - the visible and tangible evidence - that Jesus had given of his resurrection (v 3). He establishes that it was none other than the Holy Spirit through whom Jesus had instructed his disciples, it would be this same Holy Spirit who would empower the disciples of Jesus to spread the gospel (v 2, 8; John 17 v 8) and he reveals that Jesus will come again. If we believe in the ascension of Jesus then we have to believe in his return, for the promise is recorded by Luke that “this same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” (Acts 1 v 11). Furthermore, Luke shows that the acts carried out by the apostles will be rooted in prayer (v 14)...
