Rain in abundance – easy to forget, in northern Europe, what a relief that would be in the Middle East – and the barns and vats will be overflowing. The sinister, almost surrealist, army of locusts which had ravaged Israel at the command of her God in the previous chapters has gone. The years that the locust had eaten will be restored to them, in a promise destined to become proverbial in its own right...
