One of the saddest moments in my pastoral ministry came some years ago when I was contacted by a man in prison. He was coming towards the end of his sentence, having served some years for serious business fraud. During his time in jail he had thought a lot and read a lot. He had come, so it seemed, to a genuine Christian faith. He now wanted to learn Greek so he could study the New Testament, and to take up other parts of theological study.
