Thessalonians 5.23-28

When I was ordained to the ministry of word and sacrament, I received many cards and letters wishing me well and assuring me of the prayers and support of family and friends. The one that made the deepest impression on me at the time – and which I can still remember clearly nearly 30 years later – quoted three words, in the original language, from verse 24 of this passage. Pistos ho kalon, it said: ‘The one who calls you is faithful.’ It was and is a wonderful phrase, undergirding both the varied ministries of the church and also the daily life of every Christian, whether child, woman or man.
