Only twice in my life have I been in a court of law. Neither time was pleasant. Once I was up against a gardening contractor who had ruined my garden and then demanded payment. When I refused, he sued. The proceedings were in French (we were in Montreal at the time). I explained my side of the story but, since the contractor spoke fast in a local dialect, I had no idea whether I was answering his points or not. I asked for what he said to be translated, but the judge refused. I lost the case...
