I like the old joke about the two different types of people. You can divide the world into two: those who think there are two types of people and those who disagree.

But there really are two types when it comes to establishing a new community. There are the dreamers and the doers, and we need them both. You have to have people who glimpse a vision of how it all could be different. You have to have people who ask the awkward questions like, ‘Where’s the money coming from?’ ‘How are we going to heat this place anyway?’ and ‘Where are we going to build two extra toilets?’ Dreamers tend to get exasperated with doers: fancy worrying about those details when we’re creating utopia! Doers tend to get fed up with dreamers: head in the clouds, romantic, unpractical! If the enterprise is to succeed, they need each other and have to learn to get along...
