How strange how we wander, how often we wonder
if lives we are living place us beyond grace.
Yet Jesus the shepherd, the lover of nations,
is reaching to rescue through each time and place.
Sometimes we will anger the ones who live round us,
we get into conflict by harming our friends,
we're hurting the people that we love most dearly,
then needing the patience God graciously sends.
O shepherd us gently, come heal us and hold us,
then bind us when injured and seek us when lost.
Our strong God of history come lift and protect us,
then share in our suffering, O Christ of the cross.
