Description
Proper 13
John 6: 24-35
Gaze on Jesus by the campfire burning on the beach; or in the upper room; or on the shore with the five thousand. What is that in his hands? Almost always, it is bread. Bread broken and the crumbs at his feet which the birds will swoop for as he moves away. Gaze on a loaf of bread. Hold its weight in your hands; touch its rough crust, its soft spongy centre. Remember the smell of warm bread, and the comfort it brings. Crumble it between your fingers; be aware of its fragility. Bread is made from such simple ingredients – flour, water and yeast. Yet is has such a rich taste and is so sustaining. Here in this loaf is a metaphor for the creative love of God for his people, always nourishing our lives and spirits...
