Psalm 148-149


As a teenager, I did not learn to dance or to shoot a gun for different reasons. I didn’t learn to dance because my church regarded dancing as “worldly”; it wasn’t appropriate to people who were really committed to God. I didn’t learn to shoot because I elected not to join the “cadet force” at school (the British equivalent to ROT C), which trained people in the kind of discipline and skills that would be useful (among other things) if in due course you joined the military. I don’t think I had profound reasons for not joining; I just have a non co-operative streak. I still don’t know how to shoot, and I don’t really know how to dance, but this doesn’t stop me from throwing myself around the dance floor with abandon...
