Preparation

We all need to prepare ourselves for prayer, just as we get ourselves ready for meeting a friend. There are things we will want to share, and events we will want to talk about. We may want a bit of support or guidance, we may want to offer to do some work for our friend. We may come full of fears and anxieties, or full of joy and love. Very often it is a mixture of all these things; our friends and our God will accept us as we are and who we are. Yet we will be able to share more and receive more if we are relaxed. One of the best preparations for prayer is relaxation. We need to learn to be still in body, mind and spirit, to let go of the tensions of our lives. We need to heed the words ‘Be still and know that I am God.’ It is only by relaxing into His presence that we make room for God to work, make room for His peace, His love, His joy to flow into us and through us to others...
