The Offering

Remember, it is we who are guests at His table. We are not inviting the Lord to come among us; He has invited us to come and share with Him in the great feast of His kingdom. Whatever we bring in the way of gifts and talents it is because He has given them to us: ‘All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own do we give you.’ The offering is one of response, of thanksgiving for all that we have received. In the early church, the bread and wine were brought to the altar by the people to express visibly the offering of their crops, their works, themselves. So the offertory should be the whole of our lives: our joys, our sorrows, our hopes and our fears...
