Voice 1

Rules, rules, rules! That’s all you ever give us. RULES!

Up the mountain, down the mountain. MORE RULES!

And you say they come from God? Are you sure that you haven’t just concocted them yourself? None of them look like much fun and you’re almost compulsive about them.


Voice 2

They used to talk that, out in the desert, making their way by Sinai, long before they reached that ‘land of promise’. Then Moses, up on Mount Horeb, looked, and saw and died. And left us with the RULES. Of course they needed interpretation. And plenty were willing to do that, adding their two pen’orth.


Voice 3

And that promise was two edged. So many died taking that land that was supposed to be ours. And the arguments began: was it murder or just war? We never quite resolved that one. But the ties that bound us got tighter and more people broke more rules. That law of perfection seemed impossible to keep.
