Description
Meditation: Jacob’s wrestling
Proper 13 year A
Genesis 32: 22 – 31
I'd looked out on that scene before.
Knew it like the back of my hand.
Funny the sayings we have,
I don't know the back of my hand very well,
never studied it.
But I knew that scene,
the placing of trees,
leafy in summer and stark in winter;
the shape of hills and mountains,
each craggy outcrop.
I knew where shadows fell
and their movement through the year,
lengthening toward winter.
All this I knew.
The smell of the air
tangy with seaweed,
the fresh ozone,
the fishy stench of the quay...
Seventh Sunday after Pentecost, Genesis, 32: 22 – 31,
monologue, meditation, conversion, holy ground, doubt, wrestling, thought,
struggle
