Today’s reading from Ezekiel is chosen, presumably, because it connects well to the account in Luke of Jesus’ presentation in the temple. Both talk about the proper fulfilment of the law, and the verse before our reading from Luke uses the phrase ‘eight days’, as does Ezekiel. ‘Eight days’ seems to be a complete cycle, in terms of the requirements of the temple, after which things can move into a new phase...
