The Man Who Would Be King
JUDGES 9: 1-57

In connection with Joshua 20, I mentioned a woman in my class who apparently had a brain tumor. In an e-mail a couple of weeks ago, she talked about ways God had been speaking to her through classes she had taken over the summer and fall as she was thinking about marriage and about the mysterious symptoms she had. Jeremiah, Lamentations, Daniel, and other books had been speaking to her in ways I could not have guessed or planned. A couple of nights ago she and her husband came to dinner, being now married for four weeks, and we talked some more about the fruitfulness of that Old Testament study. For ten years I was in charge of a seminary, but after that I wanted to get back to being an ordinary professor. Oftentimes I think that my teaching doesn’t make the slightest difference to anybody, but sometimes God sends someone to put me right and remind me that the study I get people to do can be worthwhile...
