On the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, I read an article by a Pakistani titled “Why Do They Hate Us So Much?” It picked up a question people in the United States asked after those attacks but reversed it in light of convictions it attributes to people in Pakistan and Afghanistan today who wonder why countries such as the United States and Britain so hate them. They infer the hatred from the policies we implement in those countries, policies that we believe are ultimately in their interests but that are hard for them to see that way.
