Description

This is one of a number of monologues that I have written for use in worship or some other reflective purpose. This one deals with the events of the argument between Mary and Martha at bethany from the point of view of their brother Lazarus.

Luke 10: 38-41

I don’t believe! It was meant to be a special gathering for our guest. I’d asked the girls to lay on food and make sure everything ran smoothly so we could  all hear what he had to say to us. And then, right in the middle of it, they had this almighty fight!

There we all were, as we always do at meal time, putting the world to rights, discussing what the law and the prophets said about this, that and everything. You know the sort of thing – just what men have done since the beginning of time. And our chief guest – you know my friend Joshua – was giving us his fresh insights to guide our thoughts along new lines, helping us to see the world the way he saw it. And his way was making sense!

Sitting there I knew he was challenging the traditional views I’d held for all my life. I knew he was proposing a new way of thinking, living, acting. It seemed revolutionary. It was earth shattering in its vision. But it all made sense.
