Extract:
Anyone who has lived in a close relationship with another person for a long time will know that 'the course of true love never does run smooth'. You meet someone and you grow in knowledge and understanding. Sooner or later that leads you to a point of difference. How do you resolve that? I remember talking with a minister many years ago. 'I've never had a cross word with my wife', he said. I wonder if he ever talked to her! Not talking, hiding our differences is one way of coping. Others talk through what they believe, what they don't believe, and the things that impress and those that irritate. Sometimes they agree to differ; sometimes they seek to persuade the other to their point of view. Living peaceably with someone when you have spoken openly of your differences and recognised that they will not go away is a great gift.
