MARK 4.21–25
A Lamp on Its Stand...

...Yesterday I took part in a procession. It started outside St Margaret’s Church, Westminster, and as Big Ben struck the hour we began to move, singing hymns, around the green and into the great west doors of Westminster Abbey. I like singing hymns, and though I was at the back of the procession and a long way away from the choir, I went on singing even though nobody much could hear me.

Or so I thought. What I didn’t know was that the micro- phone which had been fitted to me for the service we were going into was already switched on. The people inside the Abbey could hear me singing a long solo through the public address system. Had I known, I would have shut up like a clam...
