Pentecost
Pentecost is a much less well-known festival, both in our culture and even in the church calendar, yet it is not just theologically significant but also rich in some of our more well-known symbols. The energy and excitement that emanate from the story in Acts should be infectious, and the readings clearly affirm that this is something for everyone of every age and stage of life. There is also a sense in which Pentecost acts as the culmination of the great Easter mystery and also the beginning of a great adventure: the life of the Church. It is this theme of adventure that is picked up in the outline for worship. This worship is one that would work very well outside; for the very adventurous that might even include holding the Eucharist outside, whereas for others it might mean holding part of the service outdoors, then moving inside, or at least moving between the two...
