Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday is often one of the few occasions in the church year where those gathered are truly of all ages. There will be men and women in their eighties and nineties and there will be young children from Brownies and Beavers, with a whole spread of experience in between. For many it is the only time in the year when they go inside a church, and for some young people it may be their first encounter. Yet it is a service with some serious restrictions. Rightly, there is a need for formality and respect, a seriousness of tone and a seriousness of theme, which can mean that we ignore the possibilities of creating a real encounter with God for those present...
