As we move into Ordinary Time, the lectionary encourages us to think about what it means to be a disciple. The readings face us with the consequences of our decisions, whether in the Old Testament through the keeping of commandments and the desire to know God, or through the letters of encouragement written by Paul and others to help the early Christians understand what Jesus’ life and death really meant. The Gospel readings introduce us to people who had to decide just what Jesus meant for them and to them, as well as exploring what it means to choose to follow Jesus.
