It is easy to understand why, in ancient times, leprosy was such a dread disease. It is an illness that has been described as a living death, and it ate away at the flesh, causing loss of sensation in the extremities, and deformity. Under the Law, sufferers were driven from their communities and shunned. To be diagnosed with leprosy would mean a life sentence of alienation and despair...
