What do you always do first thing in the morning?

For some, it will be shaving. For others, it will be making a cup of tea. For some, it will be vigorous exercise. For others, it will be reading the newspaper. Put it the other way: if someone forcibly prevented you from going through your normal morning routine, what would you miss most?

Now imagine what it would take, other than physical violence, to make you suddenly do everything differently. With most of us, it would be very bad news: an accident, a sudden illness or death in the family. If I received, early in the morning, a telephone call to say that a close family member had just been involved in a major accident, I wouldn’t do any of my normal morning things. I would pull on whatever clothes I could grab and go to be with them as fast as I could...
