Revelation 2.12-17
From the train, many miles away, you can see the skyscrapers. You come up through New Jersey, from the direction of Philadelphia, past the lovely town of Princeton, and on through somewhat less lovely townships; and then, if you’re looking in the right direction, suddenly there they are. The ground they are standing on – the quite small island of Manhattan – is more or less at sea level. But the tops of the buildings stretch up towards the sky, and indeed on many cloudy days they disappear into that cloud. Even after the terrible destruction of the Twin Towers, the buildings that remain are stupendous: the highest, the Empire State Building, rises to 1,454 feet. They can be seen from far and wide...
