Many of the prayers in this book began in a small room in a moorland village in 1984. They were part of our Lent learning: for six weeks we met once a week to discover new and exciting ways to pray together. As we live in an area famous for its Celtic saints and Anglo-Saxon spirituality, we looked for early patterns of prayer. We had the “Song of Caedmon”, but it was hard to find really early models, So we turned to the prayers from the Hebrides as found in Poems of the Western Highlanders by G.R.D. McLean (SPCK 1961)…
