Personal cost

The success of our second holiday home was at a personal cost. Ralph became increasingly anxious, never wanting to socialize. My home was becoming more and more of a prison, as I hardly went outside the door. I tried to motivate Ralph, but to no avail. All he was interested in was the television. Mindlessly sitting in front of it for hours on end. It was usually on from three in the morning until well past midnight. If it had not been for BBC Radio 4, which kept me sane, I don’t know what I would have done. It was my salvation to have stimulating, thought-provoking talks, rather than violence depicted on the screen for its own sake...
