Ephraim (the parable of the dishonest steward - Luke 16:1-9)

Ephraim made his way into the village along the familiar track that wound down from his master’s estate on the higher ground above the Sea of Galilee. He was heading for the house of Simeon who rented several acres of land on the estate, including an olive orchard. Ephraim needed to have a conversation with Simeon about the rent he owed to Boaz, the landowner for whom Ephraim worked as one of his stewards.
Simeon paid his rent to Boaz not in money but in produce from the land which, for Simeon, meant jars of olive oil and large containers of wheat…
