Mary (Jesus anointed with oil – Matthew 26:1-13)
Mary emptied the coins into her hand from the small leather bag. She studied the pile of bronze coins, Lepta and Prutot, turning them over in her hand. One by one she had set each coin aside on the few occasions she could afford to. She had been saving them to give to Jesus on his next visit to their village of Bethany. And now she had heard that he was staying in the house of Simon the Leper with the other disciples. She knew that Jesus and his disciples lived from hand to mouth, relying on the hospitality and generosity of others. Jesus had given so much to her, she was determined to give something back…
