What a glorious place to end! The thought that God takes pleasure in us supplants all those other false notions of God being rather fed up with us. The problem with low self-esteem, which afflicts so many of us, is that we project this on to how God must see us. When we couple this with all that the psalms say about sin we can come away with the idea that God must hate us, or at least, find us all a trial. Yet God’s starting point is not hatred. The beginning of our relationship with him is the pleasure that he takes in creating us and relating to us. Sin is an issue because it dents the pleasure, not because it reinforces any hatred on his part...
