Last weekend we overheard a conversation on the San Francisco subway in which the father of two small children who was on his way to the airport with some people from different parts of the country was recounting a story. They live in Illinois, and the children had been impressed by the tall buildings when the family visited Chicago. Then they went on vacation in Yosemite National Park, and the children were overwhelmed by El Capitan, the breath-taking granite rock formation.
