Gaze on that onlooker at the back, peering over the taller people at the front of the crowds. It could be you or me. Your heart is thumping, you are so exhilarated. For once, feel ready to come out of your safe corner and move towards centre stage and stand in the glare of the limelight. Be in the thick of it, waving ecstatically, grabbing whatever will act as a flag, waving it to reach nearer to heaven. You’re clapping in time to the clop of the donkey’s hooves. Everyone’s spirits are surging. Be part of a great collective ‘yes’. Gaze on hope personified, riding on the donkey’s back. In this moment the past is dismissed, the future only gain.
