Among the saddest sights in our world, some of the worst, I think, are the glimpses we get of children in need.
I think of three children grubbing around in a stinking, smouldering garbage heap on the edge of a South American city. They are barely old enough to go to school, but they are already streetwise. They know what to look for, things which they can sell for a few small coins to get a little food and drink. Their young faces tell the story of the adult world where, despite their years, they are now at home...
